I found that out the night Coco went missing.
She was still a puppy. The gate hadn't clicked shut properly, and by the time I noticed she was gone. I spent the whole night looking. Driving around, walking the streets calling her name, posting on Facebook “Lost Pet” groups.
You keep telling yourself she's fine, she's just around the corner, but it gets dark and she's still not home and your head goes to places you don't want it to. I couldn’t sleep at all.
The call came in the next morning. Someone had found her and taken her to the vet. I've never felt relief like it.
I never wanted to feel that helpless again. That's why I started Collar Spot. It began with one simple idea: a collar that could hold an Airtag, so I'd always know where she was.
The more time I spent in those early days though, the more I realised the escaping was only one worry out of a hundred. The sleepless nights, the constant barking, the chewed-up furniture.
Nobody warns you how overwhelming raising a puppy really is.
